Curatorial Intensive New York Spring 2014

This March 2014, Independent Curators International (ICI) presents the Curatorial Intensive Considering Publics and Contexts. 

The ten-day professional development program allows curators to discuss, among colleagues, the concepts, logistics, and challenges of organizing exhibitions. Central to all sessions are conversations discerning audiences and the public, working with artists, navigating contexts, defining curatorial research, and working with collections.

Wassan Al-Khudhairi is the Chief Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis and the former Hugh Kaul Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Adeola Enigbokan

Adeola Enigbokan is a New York-based artist and writer.

Hollie Kearns

Hollie Kearns is an independent curator based in Callan, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, engaged in creating and supporting contexts for artists and designers to realize new work in the public realm.

Ece Pazarbaşı is a curator based in Istanbul and Berlin.

Rachel Waldrop (Reese)

Rachel Reese Waldrop is Director and Curator of the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), the first ICA in the state of TN.

Merve Ünsal is an artist based in Istanbul.

Daniel DeLuca

Daniel DeLuca is an artist, curator, and the current Director of Mobius, the experimental artist group and artist-run center in Boston.

Marianna Dobkowska

Marianna Dobkowska is an art historian and curator of residencies, situations, and exhibitions.

Lilian Fraiji is an independent curator and producer based in Manaus, Amazon, Brazil.

Ruth Heritage

Ruth Heritage is Creative Director & Lead Curator for They Eat Culture (TEC), a cultural production non-profit, which she founded in 2009 to develop art and culture in Preston (& Lancashire), UK.

Sharmila Wood is a Perth, Western Australia-based independent curator who works on creative and cultural initiatives producing, curating, and commissioning artwork.

For more than 20 years, Higgs has shown consistent ways to supports artists, artist-groups, and curators, through his writing, interviews, curating, and teaching, as well as his reinvention and on-going development of White Columns as a space for people to experiment with the presentation of new ideas and work.

Mark Beasley is a curator, writer, and artist based in New York.

Renaud Proch is Independent Curators International (ICI)’s Executive & Artistic Director.

María del Carmen Carrión

María del Carmen Carrión is Project Manager for the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Research Institute for the Study of Art from Latin America, at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Franklin Sirmans is the director of the Pérez Art Museum Miami.

Jill Magid

Brooklyn-based artist and writer Jill Magid forms intimate relationships with systems of power, including police, military, secret service, corporations, and CCTV surveillance.

Yasmil Raymond

Yasmil Raymond joined The Museum of Modern Art as Associate Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture in July 2015.

Sarah Hromack

Sarah Hromack is a digital strategist and writer working at the intersection of technology, media, publications, contemporary art, and institutions.
