Ivana Mestrov

Ivana Mestrov is currently a research assistant within the Art History Department at Split University, Split, Croatia, and an active independent curator. In 2009 she co-founded Loose Associations, a Zagreb-based association for contemporary art practices, with a cultural worker, Natasa Bodrozic, and a visual artist, Tonka Malekovic. She participated in the 12th Session of the International Curatorial Training Program, Ecole du Magasin, at the Contemporary Art Center Le Magasin, Grenoble, France (2002–03), which led to a publication project: AIDS RIOT, artist collectives against AIDS, New York, 1987-1994. She co-curated Errors Allowed-Mediterranea 16: Young Artists Biennial in Ancona, Italy in 2013 and several exhibitions, public art projects, festivals and screenings in Croatia and abroad. In 2008, she initiated Kustoska platforma, a Zagreb-based research platform and educational program on curatorial practices, contemporary art and theory. Mestrov obtained her BA and MA in Art History and Archaeology from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University, Paris, with a focus on contemporary art (2002–04). She is presently working on a PhD proposal tackling the construction of groups, networks, and communities in contemporary art practices in the post-Yugoslav context.
