Michael Wellen

Michael Wellen is Assistant Curator of Latin American and Latino Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Wellen was Co-Curator and an essayist for Antonio Berni: Juanito and Ramona (The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 2013) and Intersecting Modernities: Latin American Art from the Brillembourg Capriles Collection (The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 2013). His essays were published in The New York Graphic Workshop: 1964–1970 (Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art, 2009) and Geometry of Hope: Latin American Abstract Art from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection (Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art, 2007). His writing has appeared in ArtNexus and Art Papers. In 2013, he was the keynote speaker for The Constellations Symposium at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC. He received his PhD in art history from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012, where he specialized in modern and contemporary art, criticism, and Cold War cultural exchanges between Latin America and the United States.
