Eduardo Carrera

Eduardo Carrera is a curator, art historian, and writer based in Philadelphia. He is a PhD candidate in the History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on Latin American, Latinx, and queer art; his research examines decolonial and queer approaches to curatorial practices, art history, and writing. Carrera holds an M.A. in in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Cultural Management from the International University of Catalonia, and a B.A. in Visual Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE), and has completed the Independent Study Program at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona (PEI). From 2017 to 2022, he served as the Director and Curator at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Quito (CAC), where he curated the annual exhibition program. He also held the position of Artistic Director of the Salón de Julio at the Museum of Guayaquil in its 62nd edition in 2023.

Additionally, Carrera co-founded and directed the exhibition and artist residency platform No Lugar from 2010 to 2016. His writings have been published in catalogs and specialized magazines including Phaidon Editorial, USLAF, Visual AIDS, Artpress, L'internationale, Artishock, La-Escuela, and Terremoto. Over more than a decade of experience, he has worked and collaborated with a wide range of museums and cultural institutions, including Visual Aids, Matadero Madrid, Han Nefkens Foundation, MACBA Barcelona, ARCO Madrid, Felipa Manuela, the United Nations, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of Ecuador, Fundación Museos de la Ciudad, IILA, Museo di Roma, PIVO Sao Paulo, and the Cisneros Institute at MoMA.
