Pat Steir is a painter, whose work has been compared to Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting; more recently, her work is influenced by Asian art and Taoist philosophy, depicting natural forces through the harmonious flow of paint. She is a master mark-maker who encourages viewers to gather their own meaning from her prints and paintings.
Steir has said that she makes her work with the attitude of a gymnast: “first the meditation then the leap.” In 1991, Pat Steir created Thursday, a colorful and captivating edition for ICI in honor of our 25th Anniversary. This red and blue etching is a fantastic portrayal of Steir's signature style of painting, with fluid drips forming a unique composition.
