Inside an Iconic Journey: The National Museum of African American History & Culture

On the cusp of the first anniversary of the National Museum of African American History & Culture in D.C., Dr. Avery Willis Hoffman, a leading member of the exhibit and media design team, will present an insider’s view of the making of the museum.

How do you create a sustainable 21st century institution dedicated to American history as seen through the lens of African American history? What are the foundational stories and essential people and events that must be covered? What are the key artifacts that must be displayed? How do you shape a visitor's journey through the building? Avery Willis Hoffman will explore these questions, and how these inquiries shaped the design process and ultimately the institution you can walk through today.
