Independent Curators International (ICI) supports the work of curators to help create stronger art communities through experimentation, collaboration, and international engagement. Curators are arts community leaders and organizers who champion artistic practice; build essential infrastructures and institutions; and generate public engagement with art. Our collaborative programs connect curators across generations, and across social, political and cultural borders. They form an international framework for sharing knowledge and resources — promoting cultural exchange, access to art, and public awareness for the curator’s role.
Joleen Loh is an Assistant Curator at National Gallery Singapore. She is also part of the curatorial team that is responsible for the DBS Singapore Gallery, a long-term exhibition space that surveys art in Singapore from the 19th century to the present. Her research is currently focused on art in Southeast Asia from the 1960s onwards, including the artistic exchanges and art historical entanglements between Britain and Singapore. She was formerly Curatorial Associate at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, where she developed its exhibitions and public programs from 2012 to 2014. She graduated with an MA in History of Art from University College London, United Kingdom, which was supported by a National Arts Council postgraduate scholarship. She also holds a BA in Art History and Asian Studies from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her past projects include A Fact Has No Appearance: Art Beyond the Object (2016) (curatorial assistant), Earth Work 1979 (2016) (curatorial assistant), Busan Biennale 2014: Special Projects (2014) (co-curator), SOUND: Latitudes and Attitudes (2014) (co-curator), Lost to the Future: Contemporary Art from Central Asia (2013) (curatorial assistant), and Lee Wen: Lucid Dreams in the Reverie of the Real (2011) (curatorial assistant).
