Jessica Baran is a writer, artist and educator living in St. Louis, Missouri. Within her local community, she has curated exhibitions of work by emerging and established contemporary artists including Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt, Robert Gober and Kerry James Marshall, among many others, and has created and overseen programming at several pathbreaking alternative art spaces, including fort gondo compound for the arts and White Flag Projects. Her art writing has appeared in regional and international publications, including the Riverfront Times, Artforum, and BOMB Magazine, among others; and she has authored three books of poetry. Her work across fields has received awards and funding from numerous institutions, including the Andy Warhol Foundation, the Daedalus Foundation, the Mellon Foundation and the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis. Baran holds an MA in art history and MFA in poetry writing from Washington University, St. Louis, as well as a BA in fine art from Columbia University, New York.
