Live Performances by Long Branch and Alysha Brilla
Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts
Curated by Candice Hopkins and Dylan Robinson
On view through August 9, 2020

On Saturday, July 25, join Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery for two live performances as part of Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts. At 2pm, Long Branch (Toronto) will activate American Ledger (No. 1), a score by Raven Chacon, performed by many players with sustaining and percussive instruments, voices, coins, axe and wood, a police whistle, and the striking of a match. Chacon invites any number of musicians with any number of non-musicians to perform this piece. At 3pm, Alysha Brilla (Kitchener) will activate Surrounded/Surrounding, a score by Tania Willard, drawing on relational practices, kinship, and land-based aesthetics. Willard's installation, Surrounded/Surrounding, brings people together for the quintessential ham around the fire. In light of new restrictions on gathering, this encourages us to think about closeness and kin in a new light.

Admission is free, however there is a limit of 30 guests for the indoor performance. Registration is required for the second performance to ensure proper social distancing while inside. For more information click here.
