As part of ICI’s Curator’s Perspective—an itinerant public discussion series featuring national and international curators—Mary Jane Jacob (curator, writer, and Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago) will present the talk Curating Social Practice.
Bringing about new works in public requires more than resources and good organization. It is a sustained, shared process that leaves outcomes open. How else can others enter in and have an experience they can own? Social practice not only tests curators’ skills; it has reshaped what it is to be a curator: working in partnership with artists, communicating directly with community members, always mindful of the potential art can hold. With insights drawn from her practice, Mary Jane Jacob will probe just what it is to be in the process, creatively curating.
This event is free and open to the public with museum admission. Seating is limited and will be first come, first served. To attend, please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with MARY JANE in the subject line.
Hosted by the Brooklyn Museum.
