Organized in collaboration with The Bronx Museum of the Arts, curators Corina Matamoros and Aylet Ojeda Jequín will discuss their exhibition Wild Noise/Ruido Salvaje, currently on view at the Bronx Museum (February 17–July 3, 2017).
Wild Noise/Ruido Salvaje is an exploration of contemporary Cuban art from the 1970s to the present that examines how Cuban artists both on the island and abroad have grappled with issues of identity, community, and the urban experience. This exhibition brings together over 60 works by more than 30 artists from the Bronx Museum collection, as well as other U.S. institutions and private collections. The Bronx Museum and El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes have embarked on a multi-year collaboration to foster artistic and cultural exchange between Cuba and the United States. Corina Matamoros and Aylet Ojeda Jequín, Curators of Contemporary Cuban Art at El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) in Havana, will speak about their curatorial process, and major adjustments made to the exhibition after artworks were held by Cuban authorities.
