PaintersNYC: Panel Discussion

May 19, 2016
6:30–8 pm

New York, NY, USA
ICI Curatorial Hub

401 Broadway, Suite 1620
New York, NY 10013

Curatorial Intensive alumna Meaghan Kent and co-curator & Artist Maureen Cavanaugh will moderate a panel discussion with artists Inka Essenhigh, Clare Grill, and Eamon Ore-Giron.

The participating speakers will discuss the artistic and studio practices revolving around the medium of painting in New York. The panel coincides with the exhibition PaintersNYC, which focuses on the general shifts and styles currently found in New York, while also referencing and examining its historical roots. The painters in this exhibition comprise a newer generation of established and emerging artists, who are part of a larger community of artists based in New York that often engage with each other with concerns over space, politics and culture.

The panel will include PaintersNYC curators Meaghan Kent and Maureen Cavanaugh with Inka Essenhigh, Clare Grill, and Eamon Ore-Giron. It will also include segments from historical interviews by Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel with Lee Krasner, Alice Neel, Robert Rauschenberg, and Alex Katz that were included in the exhibition at el Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños, Oaxaca, Mexico.

This event is free and open to the public. To attend, please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with MEAGHAN in the subject line.
