Leah Gordon and Andre Eugene, recipients of the 2015 Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Travel Award for Central America and the Caribbean, will present on their research trips to the Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago. Gordon and Eugene focused their research on regional models of artists’ self-organization, alternative strategies of community organization, and alternative residency projects within the Caribbean region, in relation their own project, the Ghetto Biennale.

During the course of their trip in the Dominican Republic, Leah Gordon and Andre Eugene interviewed a number of artists and curators, and visited the Davidoff Initiative, the Museum La Altagracia, the Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes, and Casa Quien Gallery, among other spaces. Read the full journal HERE. For this talk at the Curatorial Hub, Gordon will speak about her experiences in the DR and Trinidad, and how these research trips have impacted her thinking about the Caribbean region and her practice at large.
