Gregory Galligan: Thai Art Archives

Feb 28, 2013
6:30–8 pm

New York, NY, USA
ICI Curatorial Hub

401 Broadway, Suite 1620
New York, NY 10013

Join us at ICI for an evening with Gregory Galligan, PhD., Director/Founder of the THAI ART ARCHIVES, Bangkok, who will present the TAA’s founding story, recent development, and future projects.

TAA (f. 2010) is Thailand’s first independent archives to focus on recovering, studying, documenting, and exhibiting to the public the valuable ephemera—including official and personal documents, sketches, notebooks, diaries, photography, and printed matter—of Thailand’s modern and contemporary masters. Now entering its third year at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, the TAA continues to raise public awareness of the historical significance of Thailand’s modern and contemporary artistic heritage with a dynamic program of public and educational events, ‘micro’ exhibitions, cataloguing of special projects, and international collaborations. In October 2012, TAA and ICI forged a new, exciting relationship in agreeing to partner on special projects and programs periodically in New York and Bangkok beginning in 2013.

Galligan is currently in New York to open his exhibition THRESHOLDS: Contemporary Thai Art, at Sundaram Tagore Gallery (February 28–April 6), which brings together six ‘case studies’ as a means to present to a New York audience some of the most progressive work being done by some of the most accomplished Thai artists of the current moment. He will speak on the events leading up to the founding of the TAA, its non-profit mission, attendant challenges and successes, institutional development, curatorial vision, special projects and exhibitions, and outlook for the future.

This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with THAI ART ARCHIVES in the subject field. For more information, please contact ICI’s Public Programs & Research Coordinator Misa Jeffereis at misa@curatorsintl.org.
