Independent Curators International (ICI) supports the work of curators to help create stronger art communities through experimentation, collaboration, and international engagement. Curators are arts community leaders and organizers who champion artistic practice; build essential infrastructures and institutions; and generate public engagement with art. Our collaborative programs connect curators across generations, and across social, political and cultural borders. They form an international framework for sharing knowledge and resources — promoting cultural exchange, access to art, and public awareness for the curator’s role.
Erkan Öznur (Turkey, 1976) holds an MFA from the Sculpture department at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art; and a BA in Classical Archaeology from the University of Istanbul. Recent exhibitions include: The Cat is Killing the Birds, but I Love her Anyway, La Casita, Bogota, 2018; Shades of Today: Picking up the Pieces of Post-Truth, Centrum, Belgium, 2017; “Kollektivwechsel” Artist Book Project, No Cube Gallery, Münster, Germany, 2017 ; A Journey Into an Empty Room, Montagenhalle, Berlin, Germany, 2017 ; Macht Kunst, Deutsche Bank Atrium, Berlin, Germany, 2015; Leg los!, 48 stunden Neukölln, Schillerpalais, Berlin, Germany, 2015; UHU, Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz, Berlin, 2014. In 2018 he was awarded a grant by SAHA Foundation to take part in the Escuela FLORA residency program in Bogota, Colombia. He lives and works in Berlin.
Never Spoken Again reflects on the birth of modern collections, the art institutions that sustain them and their contingent origin stories. Curated by Colombian curator David Ayala-Alfonso, an alumnus of ICI’s Curatorial Intensive, the exhibition is part of ICI’s new series of programs supporting emergent voices in the curatorial field.read more »
