Logan MacDonald is of mixed European and Mi’kmaw ancestry, belonging to the Elmastukwek people of Ktaqmkuk territory (Bay of Islands, NF). He has had solo exhibitions throughout Canada, including The Lay of the Land project at Eastern Edge, St. John’s, 2017, and Ace Art Inc., Winnipeg, 2018, which was retitled as Visiting, Grenfell Art Gallery, Corner Brook, 2018; and the exhibition Bæōdut / Hidden Histories at the Newfoundland provincial museum, The Rooms, St. John’s, 2019. He is the author of a chapter, “Tall Timber: Reasoning Indigenous Art Histories of Newfoundland and Labrador,” in the catalogue for the Future Possible exhibition at The Rooms in St. John’s (Goose Lane Editions, 2021). MacDonald was longlisted for the 2019 Sobey Art Award, from which he was awarded a six-month artist residency at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. MacDonald is formerly vice-chair of the Indigenous Curatorial Collective and currently a Canada Research Chair in Indigenous art at University of Waterloo.
