Didier Schaub

Didier Schaub is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Doual'art in Douala, Cameroon. Doual’art is a research center of urban practices, established in 1991. Since its founding, Marilyn Douala-Bell and Schaub have jointly organized artistic and cultural projects with the aim to stimulate collective processes of urban development. Doual'art has invited numerous contemporary artists to engage with the city of Douala and its cultural and urban identities. The organization places art at the heart of society, as a vector of change, development, and most crucially, as an effective means to fight indigence and poverty. By producing site-specific urban interventions, doual'art works as an intermediary between social and economic actors, people and local authorities. It perceives cultural and artistic initiatives as a tool for consolidating freedom of expression and social cohesion.
