Regine Basha

For the past 25 years, Regine Basha has held leadership and curatorial positions in public art galleries and arts organizations in Canada and the US including SBC Gallery Montreal, The Canadian Consulate Cultural Affairs Department, New York, The Contemporary, Austin and Pioneer Works in Brooklyn. Since 2018 she has operated independently under Bashaprojects.com producing and curating collaboratively with artists such as Nina Katchadourian, Michael Rakowitz, Yto Barrada, Lucy Raven and Julie Martin of E.A.T. Her early curatorial work has focused on artists from non-western and diasporic art histories and practices, while since the early 2000s she has also developed numerous seminal projects related to sound art practices and site, including TREBLE (Sculpture Center); The Marfa Sessions (w/Lucy Raven and Rebecca Gates at Ballroom Marfa) 9+50: 50th anniversary of E.A.T (Fridman Gallery) and more. Recently she is focussing her research on relational activities with the natural world, most recently with Voice of Coral : Miguel Sbastida (GAR), and the group show Common Sentience (601 Artspace). She has been a recipient of the Robert Rauschenberg Residency award in 2016 where she produced the radio show based on her family archive Tuning Baghdad for Clocktower Radio and her exhibitions have been awarded grants from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, New York, Elizabeth Firestone Graham and the Brown Foundation. She is co-founder with Laurence Miller of Fluent ~Collaborative, a low-residency for artists and writers now in its 21st year in Austin, Texas.  Her writing can be found in Cabinet, Bomb Magazine, Art Papers and Art-Agenda and numerous artist catalogues and compendiums. She is active on professional boards, juries, and committees and is a consultant to private foundations nationally and internationally.
