Sofía Gabriel is a Mexican artist, curator, producer, and arts administrator based in Chicago. Her artistic practice explores the relationships between movement, language, and politics. Grounded in the liminal space of performance and through somatic experiences, she approaches improvisation as a method for experimentation and embodied knowledge. As an arts administrator, she has curated exhibitions and performance festivals at Hyde Park Art Center, High Concept Labs, Co-Prosperity Sphere, UNAM Chicago, and SAIC Galleries. She has worked in various capacities with organizations and artists in both Mexico City and Chicago, including Tania Candiani, the Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL), Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), and Cultura UNAM; and the Hyde Park Jazz Festival, the Field Foundation of Illinois, DCASE, Hyde Park Art Center, Gallery 400, among others. Currently, she is the Executive Director of Make Literary Productions and the Lit & Luz Festival and a Board Member of High Concept Labs.
