Karen McCready was a print publisher, gallery owner, and writer. In 1968 she graduated from Austin College with a degree in art and worked with the Neiman Marcus window design department. After moving to New York in the early 1970s she joined Pace Editions, the print-publishing arm of Pace Gallery in 1972. In 1982 McCready was appointed Director of the New York branch of Crown Point Press, a San Francisco print publisher that has published prints by artists such as Wayne Thiebaud, John Cage, Pat Steir, and Tom Marioni among many others. In 1996 she opened Karen McCready Fine Arts in Greenwich Village. Often collaborating with her husband and a fine art printer Jean Yves Noblet, McCready published artists’ prints and exhibited them in her gallery. Exhibitions included works by Sandy Gellis, Julia Jacquette, Lorna Simpson and Georgia Marsh. McCready was widely knowledgeable in many areas of the fine and applied arts and was an avid collector of ceramics, especially white porcelain. Her publications include Porcelain Traditions and New Visions, written with Jan Axel, and Art Deco and Modernist Ceramics.
