Bakirathi Mani is Professor in the Department of English Literature, and Coordinator of the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program at Swarthmore College. She is the author of two books: Unseeing Empire: Photography, Representation, South Asian America (2020) and Aspiring to Home: South Asians in America (2012). A scholar of Asian American studies, postcolonial theory and feminist and queer of color studies, she works across visual, ethnographic, historical and literary archives of South Asians in diaspora. As a curator, she has collaborated with Asian American arts organizations to curate exhibitions, programming, and public dialogue on Asian American art, film, and performance.
