Elina Waage Mikalsen (b.1992) is an artist and musician from Romssa/Tromsø. She works multidisciplinary with sound, textiles, text, performance and installations, based on a Sámi understanding of the world, hidden stories and knowledges. From her áhkku’s (grandmother’s) weaving tools she builds her own instruments, creating sonic spaces somewhere between reality and fantasy. The holes the Norwegian colonisation made in her own family history have become a starting point for fantasising about and discussing what these holes represent and how they still effect people’s understanding of themselves. Elina runs Šuvva, a platform for Sámi experimental music, sound and listening. She has a master's degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo, and has exhibited and performed at places such as Toronto Biennale, Oslo Kunstforening, Kunstnernes Hus, The Munch Museum, The National Museum in Oslo, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Singapore Biennale and Lofoten International Art Festival.
