Curator Ross Stanton Jordan is a recipient of a 2018 ICI/Joyce Foundation Research Fellowship and a Curatorial Intensive alumnus (New Orleans ’16). He is an independent curator interested in the confluence of politics, visual culture, and artistic production, and is currently based in Chicago.
For this Hub talk, Jordan will speak about his Black Presidential Imaginary project. In 2017, he curated The Presidential Library Project: Black Presidential Imaginary at the Hyde Park Art Center, an exhibition featuring an archive of representations of black presidents in American visual culture from 1930 to 2015 and eight contemporary artists addressing issues of policy, representation, and identity using strategies of archive, display and bureaucracy.
Using the Joyce Foundation fellowship, Jordan is now expanding and archiving this project through The Black Presidential Imaginary Publication. The publication is meant to support the consolidation of research and further expound on the black presidential imaginary through writing from art historians, archivists, and historians.
This event is free and open to the public. To attend, please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with ROSS in the subject line.
