Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

Kalamazoo Institute of Arts
Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States
October 27, 2018 – March 3, 2019

The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a nonprofit art museum and school, has chosen thirty sets of instructions to enact for their iteration of do it. They range from the whimsical to the abstract, but all are meant to provoke thought and engagement. Fulfilling Yoko Ono’s WISH PEACE, a live tree in KIA's galleries will hold people’s wishes as part of the exhibition. Other instructions have been shared with area artists and arts organizations to fulfill, including Kalamazoo’s Wellspring/Cori Terry and Dancers, who will create an original movement piece in response to artist Lucy R. Lippard’s suggestion. Area artists, including Nayda Collazo-Llorens, Emily Berezowski, Karen Bondarchuk, and Audrey Mills will respond to prompts with original pieces. Local organizations, including Kalamazoo Public Schools and Education for the Arts, Western Michigan University's Foundation Art Program, the Black Arts and Cultural Center, Jazz & Creative Institute, and the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center (KBAC), will also participate.
