2022 Curatorial Forum

Curatorial Forum | EXPO CHICAGO
April 6–9, 2022
Closed-Door Sessions and Lecture
21c Museum Hotel and Navy Pier
Chicago, IL

The Curatorial Forum, presented annually in partnership with EXPO CHICAGO since 2016, aims to advance civic-minded curatorial practice and the role of curators in empowering local art scenes; and to promote regional collaborations and knowledge-sharing across the US.

This year’s Curatorial Forum will bring together over 40 mid-career and established curators from more than 15 U.S. states. In addition to a series of guided site visits to the fair and cultural institutions in Chicago, the curators will participate in a series of closed-doors sessions focusing on critical questions that are relevant to contemporary curatorial practice and its context, including civic engagement, racial equity, and labor condition in the curatorial field.

Independent Curators International (ICI)

Independent Curators International (ICI) supports the work of curators to help create stronger art communities through experimentation, collaboration, and international engagement. Curators are arts community leaders and organizers who champion artistic practice; build essential infrastructures and institutions; and generate public engagement with art. Our collaborative programs connect curators across generations, and across social, political and cultural borders. They form an international framework for sharing knowledge and resources — promoting cultural exchange, access to art, and public awareness for the curator’s role.
