Visual AIDS Artists Caucus was formed in 1988 by a group of artists who wished to create a visual symbol to demonstrate compassion for people living with AIDS and their caregivers. In 1991, artists who were part of the Visual AIDS Artists Caucus created "The Ribbon Project", better known today simply as the Red Ribbon.
