The Curatorial Forum, presented by in partnership with EXPO CHICAGO, had traditionally brought together mid-career and established U.S.-based curators during the annual fair to generate conversations around the civic responsibilities of museums, accessibility, regionalism, and race and representation. In 2020, the issue of racial inequity was brought to the forefront of the curatorial and museum fields in unprecedent ways. In response, this virtual convening of the Forum generated new conversations on how museums and institutions can both respond and commit to long-term, meaningful change. Building on the closed-door discussions on racial equity that had been held in past editions of the Curatorial Forum, this online version of the program reconvened past participants to center on current questions of racial equity in US museums and institutions.
