ICI in Chicago

ICI IN CHICAGO
Thursday, September 22–Saturday, September 24

In conjunction with EXPO CHICAGO
September 22–25
Navy Pier
600 E Grand Avenue
Chicago, IL 60611

This September, join ICI in Chicago and connect with EXPO CHICAGO and many of the city’s cultural hot spots. Gain early access to the fair; visit the family home and collection of ICI Independent Victoria Rogers; join ICI collaborators, curators, artists, friends and colleagues at a Cocktail Reception hosted by ICI Trustee Jack Geary and Dolly Geary; mingle with leading international curators at the EXPO CHICAGO / ICI Curatorial Forum; and visit the city’s museums and galleries at your own pace – ICI’s recommendations in hand – or join ICI on intimate visits of some of the top art spaces in the city, including a special ICI curators-led visit of Theaster Gates’ Dorchester Projects.

Chicago is an exciting center for art, and the city has been a formative site to so many artists who studied there and are now some of the leading figures of American contemporary art (think of Theaster Gates, Rashid Johnson, Jeff Koons, Michael Rakowitz, Nancy Spero, Jessica Stockholder, …).

ICI has worked with key cultural institutions and curators in Chicago for over 35 years, including most recently the Block Museum, the DuSable Museum, Northwestern University, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the School of the Art Institute, the Smart Museum, among others. There are 12 alumni of the Curatorial Intensive program currently working in Chicago. And ICI’s two most recent Limited Editions were produced by Chicago-based artists Robert Burnier and Jessica Stockholder.

Every year since 2014, ICI has partnered with EXPO CHICAGO, and this year, ICI has teamed up with the fair on EXPO’s Curatorial Forum, a convening of over 25 curators from across the U.S. and around the world. Since 2014 ICI has also organized special itinerary of events for our International Forum members, drawing on ICI’s engagement with our cultural partners in the city.
