Independent Curators International (ICI) produces exhibitions, events, publications, research and training opportunities for curators and diverse audiences around the world. Established in 1975 and headquartered in New York, ICI is a hub that connects emerging and established curators, artists, and art spaces, forging international networks and generating new forms of collaborations. ICI provides access to the people and practices that are key to current developments in the field, inspiring fresh ways of seeing and contextualizing contemporary art.
Paulina Ascencio is an independent curator and researcher based in Mexico. A Philosophy and Social Sciences graduate, her research focuses on art and politics, developing a thesis on democratization of the aesthetic experience and horizontal curatorial models. Moreover, she is interested in ecology and environmental issues, currently researching artificial light as a phenomenon, through the relationship between writer’s block and the global energy crisis. In 2010 she was part of a group of emerging curators to work with the Jumex Collection. She did an editorial residency in 2012 at Kadist Art Foundation in San Francisco, California. During 2013, she was appointed Assistant Curator at MAZ Museo de Arte de Zapopan, in Mexico. In 2014 she curated the group show Delusions of Decay and started collaborating in a project with LAND Los Angeles Nomadic Division and The Getty Foundation.
In January 2015, ICI, in collaboration with Prospect New Orleans and CAC New Orleans, presents the inaugural Curatorial Intensive in New Orleans.read more »
